Physician Reimbursement Systems (PRS) specializes in publishing medical billing information for billers, coders, and physicians. There are thousands of numeric codes for medical diagnoses, and thousands more that describe medical procedures. There are complex rules that govern the validity of billing a particular set of disgnosis code with a set of procedure codes on a claim. That is complicated by variability among carriers, localities across the country, and changing government regulations. PRS partners with about a dozen of the leading medical specialty societies as their official coding resource.

For years, PRS published coding books, tailored to individual medical specialties. It expanded its offering online with CodingToday.com, a subscription-based web service for searchable coding information. Both systems were difficult to maintain, and prone to reliability and up-time problems.

FlatTop Technology delivered to PRS a completely redesigned website and book production application. The website contains much more coding data, is far more reliable, is up to 10 times faster, and is more reliable than the previous version of their site. Most importantly, customers were surveyed regarding their opinions of the two versions. They rated the new version 20-25% higher in terms of value and ease of use.

Significant improvements were made for book production as well. The painful quarterly process of producing books has been reduced from days or weeks to hours. And the process is so efficient now that PRS has been able to turn it into a profit center. In addition to producing their own books, PRS produces the coding books for other companies in their market.
