Canvastic

Canvastic is a commercial graphics application for the K-8 student publishing market. It is full of the features you would expect to find in a graphics application, but unique in the sense that it was built from the beginning to excel in a school lab environment. FlatTop Technology built the entire application that runs natively in Macintosh OS X, OS 9, and Windows.

Canvastic is easy for students to use and fun for them to express their creativity. They enjoy the following features:

  • Both painting (bitmap) and drawing (vector) tools
  • Multiple document layers
  • On screen slide shows with music or voice-overs
  • Unlimited levels of undo and redo

It is easy for teachers to administer a laboratory of 35 or more computers so they can concentrate on teaching rather than configuring and trouble-shooting. Teachers appreciate these features:

  • Customizable button sizes. Make them larger for younger students and smaller for older ones.
  • Lockable palette windows avoid the mistake of accidently dragging them out of view.
  • Shared preference files allow an entire lab configutation to be changed from a single place.
  • Unlimited preference sets give teachers the freedom to customize the application's interface, tool availability, and more for individual grade levels or lesson plans.

Canvastic was born out of a partnership between FlatTop Technology and TeachTech. TeachTech's founder couldn't find an appropriate publishing tool for his lab environment during his 15 years as a tech lab teacher. He turned to FlatTop Technology to build the application of his dreams.
